Released in 2005, ARE YOU THINKING WHAT I'M THINKING? is the debut album from the Like, an all-female indie rock trio. There is a gleaming, dreamy feel to the album (helped along by the fine production of Wendy Melvoin) as the group crosses over from edgy rock to folky, harmony-soaked ambience to stripped-down indie swirl over the course of the album's 13 songs. Though the bandmembers were still quite young at the time of the album's release, ARE YOU THINKING represents a confidence and poise that belies their years.
Editorial reviews
...[T]he record has an endearing, well, likability. - Grade: B
Entertainment Weekly
3.5 out of 5 stars - ...[T]he band's debut occupies that small overlapping space between breezy commercial craft and alt-rock subversion....
Rolling Stone
3 stars out of 5 -- An understated, often truly lovely debut.
Uncut
4 stars out of 5 -- [F]actor in Froom's inventive bass-playing an Berg's unique, boys-and-books-inspired lyrics, and the whole shebang sounds precociously fresh.
